Tougher sentencing for cruelty

The justice system is failing animals

We all need to act now

Animal abusers are a danger to all of us.

They’re likely to also be responsible for domestic violence, child abuse and other predatory crimes.

Scotland for Animals believes that the vulnerable in our communities should be protected from cruelty. Human and non-human.

For everyone, from dogs and cats to children, things need to change.

What we want

  • All animals, including invertebrates, to be protected by law

  • A maximum life sentence/ unlimited fine for animal cruelty

  • The creation of a dedicated Police Scotland unit to investigate animal cruelty and enforce legislation

  • The creation of a register for those convicted of cruelty

  • Statutory requirement for a multi-agency approach for reporting/ investigation

  • Scrapping of all time bars on prosecution

Politicians have dodged taking action to protect animals for too long. It's now time for them to stand up or be removed at the next election.
